Xerces Blue is an extinct butterfly from the San Francisco Bay area. One theory is that it went extinct because with human development, a new ant species was introduced that edged out an ant the butterfly was dependent on in its larval stage.

Xerces is also the name of my favorite Deftones song. I also love Cherry Waves and Hole in the Earth.
